New Vander Interview - Can Anyone Repost It Here?

A Magma fan wrote to me to tell me that there is a new interview with Vander in a magazine called Reflechir & Agir. The interview is in Issue 41, and a link to the contents is here.

I don't think that this is a magazine related to music, so it may be interesting to see what Vander has to say in a non-musical context.

If anyone can tell us what was in this interview (preferably in English!), it would be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Looks like a Sieg Heil fanzine, basically :

  2. It is a right wing magazine, and I'm sure you don't want to read it.
Am I the only Magma fan in the world enjoying their music AND Christian Vander's opinions?
Sad but true, The blindness and stupidity of you all would turn into a nazi even the Dalai Lama...
My advice : READ Eustace Mullins, and think about it.

  5. I haven't visited this blog for quite a while but i sadly notice, as i read the comments above that still some programmed robots seem to care about the so-called "right wing/fascist/nazi" side of Vander or about allegedly "right wing" papers in which he expresses himself. You are all fools and that's an understatement. Better yet: I am a Nazi and you know why: because i love MAGMA... Zieg Heil! If you ask yourself such questions it's because your are still stuck into Manicheism. Greetings from France. You have been programmed... fools.

  6. Fools indeed!
    I totally agree with KomaramoK.
Haters hate, and not a single word about magma's new magical album yet!

  7. And before yelling, maybe you should read the interview?

  8. - Komaramok, this is not an "allegedly" right wing paper : a look at the table of contents of their previous issues, and the links I provided, should make it obvious, even to you.
    - Anonymous coward #1 : this is not a merely "right wing" magazine, you are making an understatement. This is clearly "extrême droite", with sympathy to the Front National and their inspirators. I'm only pointing out a verifiable fact.

You automatically deduce that this observation entails "manicheismn", "blindness", "stupidity"... although I have made no reference to my political preferences, if any, and their connections, if any, with my musical tastes. Look at yourselves, spot the real robots.

  10. There are a lot of different opinions flying around here. The only thing that we can do is to read the interview and/or article, and determine the nature of the interview ourselves. I am making no prejudgements here. Vander might be treading on old ground and talking about the history of Magma for a new audience, he could be talking about the new album, or he might be talking about something totally different. This is why I asked for someone to try to repost the contents of the interview here.

After the last incident on this blog in late 2009, I would find it hard to believe that Vander would give an inflammatory interview in an inflammatory magazine. If Stella knew about this, I am sure that she would not have permitted this to happen.

  11. Indeed, we don't know yet what opinions Vander is expressing here. But the editors of this rather specific magazine have apparently recognized him, possibly in a way that some might find controversial (although this needs not have an effect in their appreciation of his music).

  12. Réfléchir et agir est une revue ouvertement d'extrême droite, hélas!

  13. Je n'acheterai donc certainement pas ce magasine pour savoir ce que christian vander y dit, je préfère largement écouter et écouter encore Félicité Thösz!!!

  14. So, who's gonna dare to buy this infamous NAZI magazine?

Christian doesn't ask permission to anybody (I think) to give interviews. Good luck to Stella dealing with this after the Borghi incident...

  16. @Ralph ... one might think that CV does what many musicians do ... have interviews arranged through their management (ie: Stella) or through their PR agent. After the last incident, I am sure that Stella (and the rest of the band) tries to be vigilant and protect CV from himself.

I am not sure if this interview has been published yet, or if this magazine has just pre-announced the article, but if the magazine is not out on the newsstands yet, I bet that Stella and Seventh will do everything they can to quash it.

Then again, the interview might just be a purely musical one... I don't know ... I have never seen this magazine, and even if I had the article, I would only understand a fraction of it.

So there is no need to read neither the questions nor the answers... it's already a drama!
    This is very intolerant.

  18. I would love to read it actually...if someone of you french boys and gals could try to get a copy that would be really appreciated. Even if they only talk music, who gives a fuck. Is there anybody here with some brain who would want to be connected with a right wing mag like that?? They would probably say as they have always said (or not said): oh...we had no idea what this interview was for, etc...it is just the same old story basically. In any case, most hardcore fans are just not emotionally ready to let it sink into their system. CV can´t be right wing, impossible. He can´t love Hitler, when he loves Coltrane, bla bla woof....he is a weirdo, so he can.

There is no intolerance in what I said.

I didn't read this interview, but knowing that R&A is a right-wing magazine, the sight of this interview can *only* be a drama after what happened in 2009 - until someone posts the interview and we all see that CV only talks about music...

  20. Ugh, this can't be good. Christian needs to keep his bloody mouth shut. Magma's music is too precious to me to be linked with petty politics of hate.

  21. You guys suck.
what do you think they're gonna ask?
" how much do ou hate jews?"
this mag seems interestig to me, look at the table of contents, they talk about mysticism and traditions...
Having right wing opinions doesn't mean beeing hateful and stupid...
Read Julius Evola, Jean Parvulesco, René Guénon! among many others...
    RAD and Think!!!
you want CV to talk only about music, but magma is way more than music
have you ever thought that CV might have elaborated and interesting thoughts/ ideas/concepts about esoterism?????
    You suck.....

  25. Alright, I suppose I can take back my previous comment. For now. This is still a frustrating issue for me, and while I've learned to cope with the possible ideological leanings of Magma's music, I had hoped this controversy was dead and gone.

Now, while Googling, I stumbled upon a great Tumblr post that addresses the whole 2009-ordeal about Vander's beliefs. While your mileage may vary, the author makes some excellent points. I definitely recommend reading it: http://sorenity.tumblr.com/post/23087381532

  27. The question is not what is in the interview but what the interview is in ...

  28. Anonymous : "Having right wing opinions doesn't mean beeing hateful and stupid..."

Nope, but one can less appreciate Magma's music, knowing that the composer has right-wing beliefs. Not everyone has the capacity to like the music without liking the opinions of the composer. It takes time, it takes some time, it's not easy. Christian has the right to have right-wing beliefes, but his fans have also the right to dislike his right wing opinions.

  30. Hamtaï, friends!

Let's suppose Christian Vander is a total Nazi. Let's suppose this, despite his admired and adored idol is John Coltrane, who is BLACK. Let's suppose this despite Vander confessing he attempted suicide the night he found out the BLACK John Coltrane died. Let's also ignore the fact that he has been openly influenced by american black music and has done "OTIS", song tha is homage to the late OTIS REDDING who, of course, is black. Let's also ignore the fact that in more than once interview he has acknowledged the superiority of black music in the "spiritual" area.

Indeed, he seems a racist. A Black supremacy racist...

Let's also dismiss the fact that he was married with a Jewish (Stella Zelcer) for a lot of years too.

NOW, taking the supposition... Where is then the Nazi propaganda in MAGMA's music? Where? No one even understands the lyrics for god's sake!!

If he really was a Nazi and wanted to publicize his views he would have sung in French, German or English, or any KNOWN language, damn it!! Where is the Nazi propaganda in MAGMA music? Only the Wagnerian influence, but then most modern music has Wagnerian influence in some way or other. What else do we get? Just two or three tiny svastikas on the cover of the first MAGMA album. And then the svastikas are being stomped on by the MAGMA logo. So hardly pro-nazi, more anti-nazi.

Anybody with a good knowledge of the band history will understand that Vander likes to provoke, and that in 1970 the French public was incredible hostile. The best way for Magma to be heard was to SHOCK the public, which they did with their screams. Some of them called them "fascists" and MAGMA, instead of counterargumenting, just played along the game; Klaus an interview told that whenever somebody called them "fascists" he started doing the nazi salute to vander and he would reply back. That is called DARK HUMOR. It is a JOKE.

    It's just provokation.

As for the magazine interview, the reason is clear. Not many magazines are interested in Magma music; why should Vander refuse?

It's a very north-american thing to think that if he agrees giving an interview to the magazine, then he supports the magazine's views. To think of this, means having a faulty logic inside your brain.
